Indian Internet Explodes, 1.5 lac mails sent in protest for Net Neutrality


Looks like people are finally aware about net neutrality, The major problem going on right now in India. People are protesting heavily about net neutrality as #SaveTheInternet and #IndiaWantsNetNeutrality became the most trending topics on both Facebook and Twitter. This is one of the biggest online protests in India as Internet users have sent more than 1.5 lakh emails over the weekend to the telecom regulator asking to protect network neutrality in the country. In the last 10 hours, Mails have been sent at 10 per minute elecom regulator asking to protect network neutrality in the country.

This is completely unprecedented. We thought we’ll get about 15000 emails in 10 days,” said Kiran Jonnalagadda, one of people behind the campaign.

It clearly shows that the people are really serious about net neutrality in India. Many big countries have already adopted net neutrality and if India doesn’t adopt it, It would definitely lack behind.
In December 2014, Airtel had also tried to introduce a plan to charge Internet telephony companies like Skype and Whatsapp a higher tariff. However, the telecom operator withdrew the plan after public outrage.
